From Clay to Finished Form

Every piece begins with the clay — primarily Laguna B-Mix and porcelain, both chosen for their smooth texture, strength, and ability to capture fine detail. These clays allow for the refined forms and subtle surfaces that define Kim Filiaggi Pottery.
Each vessel is wheel-thrown, then carefully trimmed and refined during the greenware stage to achieve balanced proportions and a pleasing feel in the hand. Once dry, the work is bisque-fired to approximately 1940°F to harden the clay and prepare it for glazing.

Kim uses a selection of food-safe commercial glazes, layering color to complement form and accentuate the textures created through chattering or sgraffito. After glazing, each piece is high-fired to approximately 2200°F, ensuring both durability and a rich, finished surface.
The result is functional pottery that’s made to last — microwave and dishwasher safe, and crafted for everyday use and enjoyment.
Because each piece is handmade, slight variations in form, color, and surface naturally occur — small distinctions that make every vessel truly one of a kind.
